🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Specialized Traversal Techniques Become Widely Accessible During This Update Respawn Entertainment has a special treat in store for Apex Legends players, perfectly timed for the holidays. Enthusiasts of this game's super-slick traversal will be pleased to discover that a new movement mechanic will be introduced when the Amped season launches on November 4th. Introducing The Mantle Boost Named "Momentum Boosting" by Respawn, this feature gives players a surge of propulsion when climbing over obstacles. As explained lead battle royale designer the design lead, Mantle Boosting has unofficially existed of the game for some time, often called as "ledge boosting." But it's no easy feat for the average player, and typically employed by pro gamers in Ranked Mode or esports competitions. In this update, Respawn simplifies the process for everyone to successfully perform these tricky speed-boosts. "Mantle Boosts have been in Apex for a while, but the movement requires skill to pull off and a player might not realize it [is in the game] without outside knowledge," Canavese explains. "We're adding a visual cue so users can clearly identify when and how to trigger the high-octane traversal skill, opening up the feature and introducing fresh strategies to compete for a much wider base." The Reasoning Behind Opening Up Advanced Mechanics Why make a once niche technique available to all players? Lead Legend designer Josh Mohan explains developers aims for players to experience empowerment — even those who are new. "[The playerbase] is doing other crazy stuff like super-gliding and tap-strafing, and we looked around at other games, observed what the community execute, and we wondered, 'What if we extend some of this power to more players?'" the designer explains. "Since right now, some of these advanced [movement] mechanics are somewhat awkward to access — you need to change controls and execute within one-frame windows. So we said, 'What if we create a polished version?'" Season 27 Emphasis on Mobility Movement is primarily the name of the game in Season 27, with characters the gravity mage, the defensive specialist, and Valkyrie all getting buffs to help keep them mobile. Recovery time on her tactical ability has been decreased, and the Gravity Lift will propel players into the air faster than it used to. Her defensive walls feature overhead protection and capability to grant speed boosts to those nearby. But it's aerial this Legend who's getting significant improvements this season, with multiple tweaks implemented to enhance her as more potent, faster, and deadlier. "I think many agree that Valkyrie's time has arrived," says Legend designer the designer. "There's no doubt that she's been dominant previously, but with the introduction of other characters, mobility perks, and Evac Towers, it seemed like she's not very relevant in today's Apex. This presented an ideal chance for the team to revisit a bunch of aspects [of her kit] and sort of bring her back to former prominence." Enhancements to the Aerial Legend To restore Valkyrie's relevance in the game's meta, Holstead notes Respawn evaluated all her skills and introduced some powerful changes. Her VTOL Jets have been upgraded, increasing her speed while airborne, and this equipment now recharge much quicker, enabling her to remain longer aloft. Now she won't take damage from her ultimate ability, which was enhanced to mark opponents who take damage from it. Her Skyward Dive skill — which launches teammates skyward for repositioning or retreat — requires much less time to fire up. She's also getting recently added Legend Upgrades that users can choose to conserve resources, widen the area of her Missile Swarm, or further speed up her Skyward Dive takeoff time. "Her jet pack now delivers on the pilot experience," Holstead says. Map Changes Additionally, the lone airborne map, Olympus, receives a mobility-focused overhaul, with major changes that opens up choke points and makes claiming the high ground more manageable. Respawn state the game Season 27 is all about giving players the resources they need to keep up with matches. "Really, we examined Apex's fundamental nature as a movement shooter," says principal designer the lead. The battle royale Season 27: Amped launches Nov. 4 at the specified times.
