Two individuals lost their lives when the attacker, thirty-five, carried out a combined vehicle and knife assault at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue on October 2. North West Counter Terrorism Police stated the thirty-year-old man was originally arrested on suspected the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism. Authorities clarified he was re-arrested at the city airport on suspected failing to disclose information in violation of Section 38B of the 2000 Terrorism Act. He has since been released on bail with certain restrictions. Law enforcement added they "are confident there is any ongoing threat to the public following the event last week." Jihad Al-Shamie was shot dead by armed police Six people were held in the aftermath of the attack, with two—one male and one female—taken into custody in the following hours and then released on Sunday night. The next day, investigators stated they had been given additional time to question the other four individuals, who were also held on "suspicion of planning, preparation, and instigation of acts of terrorism." On Wednesday, authorities stated they too were set to be released but clarified that "did not mean the probe was complete." Also on that day, authorities revealed that the attacker placed an emergency call in which he swore loyalty to the organization calling itself Islamic State. One victim, sixty-six, and 53-year-old another victim died in the attack on a local road in the area. Mr Daulby suffered a bullet injury after armed officers arrived at the scene and shot the attacker dead. A police bullet also struck a different individual, a bystander, who is recovering in hospital after an operation.
